The first thing we'll do in class today is collect your Chapter 1 Comprehension Check. Remember that if an assignment is not handed in at the beginning of the class period, it is late.
We're going to skim some of the key concepts in Chapter 1 in your textbook, and there are many. We're also going to do an exercise in class that will allow us to take a look at our own life experiences.
Assignment for Friday, Sept. 13:
On page 39 of your text, there are two exercises you are required to complete.
"What's in a Name?" - Research what your first and last names mean. Your findings can be hand-written on a piece of paper for us to share in class on Friday. You can Google or Bing your first name, ask family members about why you were given this name, and so on.
Internet Assignment: Enter your zip code into the website provided on page 39. Print the sheet that gives the demographics for your zip code area. Bring it to class on Friday so we can do some comparisons.
